Project description

The objective of this project is to assist our students to become aware of their own reality concerning their own society, culture, literature among others, in order to build bridges among different cultures.

Therefore, the project aims at augmenting the students’ realities on both a personal and a national level. They will not only be asked to reflect upon their personal and national identities but will get to know the personal realities of students of other European countries and learn about national characteristics in different areas such as science, art, literature, music and architecture.

Different phases will divide this project:
- The first thematic block will deal with the Social realities of teens in the different countries.
- The second thematic block will focus at realities in Science & Architecture.
- The third thematic block will focus on realities in Plastic arts (sculpture and painting).
- The fourth thematic block will work on realities in Literature and Music.

Not only does language help bridge the gap to understanding and cooperation but also non-verbal means of communication play an important part in our project. Applied in poems, songs, videos or drawing, the aesthetic dimension will help to see beyond the pure communication purpose.

The participants in of this project wish to assist to eradicate prejudices and misconceptions among countries and very different societies, using culture as the perfect umbrella under which we all discover and develop as European citizens.

One of our most important motivations is to make the students aware of the fact that their own personal reality and their national identities do not make them different from others. Thus, we believe that this project will contribute to lifelong learning, social cohesion, active citizenship, intercultural dialogue and personal fulfilment.

We think that the project is needed because in recent years globalization has brought with it the side effect of “cocooning”. With our project we want to work against this tendency and open the students’ minds towards lives (realities) in other countries.

The project will be addressed to students aged 14 to 17, from very different backgrounds depending on the country and the area where they are settled. Many of them study at schools with a multicultural environment providing the project a wider cultural point of view.

We would like to promote cooperation between European countries, not only by increasing the students’ language abilities but also by showing them other lives (realities) of teenagers in different European countries. We believe that, through our project, the students will become more aware of the importance of language learning when it comes to interaction with students of other countries on the topics of the project.

By comparing their social environment as well as national idiosyncrasies in arts, literature and sciences, they will not only realise the diversity in their own culture but also recognize their similarities.
